Learning Environment

Box Forest is an educational setting of medium size with structures carefully planned to ensure each student is known and appreciated as an individual. Within the school, students are catered for in class groups within a year level. Each class group has a dedicated pastoral care teacher. They are further supported by a student manager at each level and an assistant principal.

Across the college all staff and students are divided into one of three houses. The House System providing many opportunities to foster school and team spirit.

The Student Leadership Action Group and the House System encourage student involvement in decision-making. Students are encouraged to appreciate their own gifts and talents and to develop them to the maximum.

This is a school where each student is valued as a unique human being and where both the journey and the destination are important.

Acceleration Program

Our College has established an acceleration program for selected students moving from grade 6 into year 7. Students will continue into year 8 and 9 as part of the program. There will be the opportunity for students to begin their VCE as part of their year 10 programme. The main aims of the program are to provide access to faster paced curriculum with minimal repetition, and to provide opportunities for enrichment and extension.

SOAR Program

A program enriching students’ knowledge and skills designed to give selected students the opportunity to be extended academically and to use their higher thinking skills. Gardner’s Multiple Intelligence principle and Bloom’s Taxonomy underpin this learning enrichment program with much of the work developed around digital storytelling and ICT

Diaries

All students require a College diary. For students to achieve well we recognize that they need to be organized. It is one of the most important tools in communication between home and school. There is a strong focus in pastoral care from year 7 to 12 on effective use of diaries.
